Mental Health and Homeworking
Today I feel better?
Today I feel better, I feel more energised and happy to play along. But yesterday however, I had a real low. I wasn’t sure if it was to do with an after Easter low, or not much structure to my days, but I had an over whelming feeling of ‘what is the point of doing any jobs or anything constructive?’.
Have any of you had this yet? I have young family at home, but am not able to go out unless in my own garden (am lucky to have a garden), therefore yes, my days are busy, but I am missing the outside world, going out to work, interacting/seeing/talking to other people, the feeling of personal purpose and a bit of pressure…. But yesterday wouldn’t have been a day you would have wanted to talk to me!
I am generally a tough cookie, I don’t like to be defeated or let the small things get to me… but I will admit that whilst others have it really bad (I mentioned before my bestie is an Ambulance Technician), I might just have been a little bit affected… only a bit…
As an employer I would acknowledge that working at home alone without as much contact can induce stress. Workers may feel they don’t have as much support or structure to their work.
Have a think about how you can keep in direct contact with workers and recognise the signs of stress as early as possible. Talk any issues through with them and arrange meetings on the phone or using technology so they can just talk to others and maybe even have something to laugh at loud about or with someone!
The HSE offer some signs of stress guidance on their website.
